Sawan Somvar Days in 2019


Shravan month or Sawan month is dedicated to Lord Shiva in Hindu calendar's fifth month. Savan month starts in the mid of July till the mid or end of August. The month of Sawan is very auspicious to worship Lord Shiva. Shiva's devotees carry fasts during the whole month of Shravan month on Sawan somvaar to please Lord Shiva and attain his blessings.

Sawan Somvaar Vrats are carried out by devotees on all Mondays or Somwar's in the Shravan month. Shravan Somwar or Sawan Somwar Vrats are observed by most Hindu people, there are 4-5 sawan somwar vrats in the month of Sawan. Some people continue observing fasts after the month of sawan also to complete 16 Somwaar or solah somvaar vrats.

All Tuesdays or Mangalwar in the month of Shravan are dedicated to Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. Fasting on Tuesdays of Shravan month is known as Mangal Gauri Vrat. Some other auspicious days in the month of Savan are Sawan Shivaratri, Hariyali Teej, Raksha Bandhan and Nag Panchami.

This year in 2019, the Shravana Month starts from 17th July, 2019 (Wednesday). Sawan Somwar 2019 Vrat Dates for Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and other North Indian states are on 22nd July, 29th Jul, 5th August and 12th August (All Mondays) and the sawan month is ending on 15th August, 2019.

In the states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Shravana Month first day is on August 2, 2019. Sawan Somwar Vrat Dates 2019 for these states are on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th August.

There is fifteen days difference in Purnimant calendar, followed by North Indian states, Shravan month starts fifteen days before Amavasyant calendar.
Shravan or Savan month's name is derived from the Nakshatra (constellation) Shravan. This constellation Shravan appears every year in this month of Savan.

  •     Savan Somvar: Mondays fast in the month of Savan
  •     Solah Somvar: Solah (sixteen) Somvars(Mondays) fasting
  •     Somya Pradosh: Monday Fast observed till the evening during Pradosham or Pradosh Vrat.
