Sawan Somvar Days in 2017
All Tuesdays or Mangalwar in the month of Shravan are dedicated to Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. Fasting on Tuesdays of Shravan month is known as Mangal Gauri Vrat. Some other auspicious days in the month of Savan are Sawan Shivaratri, Hariyali Teej, Raksha Bandhan and Nag Panchami.
This year in 2017, the Shravana Month starts from 10th July, 2017 (Monday). In the states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Shravana Month first day is on 24th Jul, 2017. Sawan Somwar Vrat Dates 2017 for these states are on 24th Jul, 31st Jul, 7th Aug, 14th Aug and 21st August.
There is fifteen days difference in Purnimant calendar, followed by North Indian states, Shravan month starts fifteen days before Amavasyant calendar.
Shravan or Savan month's name is derived from the Nakshatra (constellation) Shravan. This constellation Shravan appears every year in this month of Savan.
Highly auspicious time to start Solah Somvar Vrat Katha is from first Sawan Somwaar for women as well as men. Somvar Vrat or Somvaar Vrat is mainly categorized into three categories:
- Savan Somvar: Mondays fast in the month of Savan
- Solah Somvar: Solah (sixteen) Somvars(Mondays) fasting
- Somya Pradosh: Monday Fast observed till the evening during Pradosham or Pradosh Vrat.
