Origin of Navratri Mantras

The word ‘mantra’ has been derived from the Sanskrit word “mantrana,” which means advice or suggestion. Mantras are chanted addressing the Goddess and serves as a communion between the devotee and the Almighty. It also helps one to connect to the inner self. Listening to the melodious chanting of the mantras or repeating the mantras gives us inner peace. The mantras serve to calm the spirit and soul.

There are various different mantras to be chanted while worshipping the nine different deities or incarnations of Goddess Durga, namely, Shailputri, Brahmcharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Katyaini, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhatri. The mantras also vary according to the days of Pooja such as one specific mantra for Shasti and then for Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Vijayadashami.
