Hindus attach considerable importance to Sankashti Chaturthi. On this specific day, known as Sankashti Chaturthi, people fast remembering Lord Ganesha and pray to him. Two Chaturthi Tithis occur in each month of the Hindu calendar. Sankashti Chaturthi is the name of the Chaturthi tithi that occurs after Purnima, or the full moon during Krishna Paksha, while Vinayaka Chaturthi is the one that occurs after Amavasya, or the new moon during Shukla Paksha. Sankashti, a term that derives from Sanskrit means "liberation from the hard times"
