Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902 C.E.) was a Hindu monk, a great patriot saint of India. Swami Vivekananda Ji was born on 12th January 1863 into a Bengali family of Calcutta as Narendranath Datta. Swami Vivekananda was born on Krishna Paksha Saptami after seven days of Paush Purnima which is known as Swami Vivekananda Jayanti. As Jayanti day is based on tithi according to Hindu calendar, it is not fixed on Gregorian calendar like Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti which are celebrated on fixed day on Gregorian calendar.
Swami Vivekananda's Gregorian date of birth on 12th January is celebrated in India as National Youth Day. National Youth Day of India is celebrated on 12th January every year since 1985 in honour of the great philosopher.
A disciple of Ramakrishna and follower of Vedanta philosophy of Hinduism, he founded Belur Math, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
Having full faith in the youth of India, he had a very strong belief that youth can transform the fate of India through their hard work, dedication and spiritual power. Swami Vivekananda was a true Karma Yogi.
