Gopashtami 2024 Date - Sri Krishna and Cow Worship Day
Gopashtami falls on Shukla Paksha Ashtami Tithi in the holy month of Kartik. Gopashtami is believed to be the day when Nanda Maharaja sent his children Krishna and Balarama to herd the cows for the first time. Gopashtami festival is celebrated mainly in North India and more famous in Mathura, Barsana, Vrindavan and other Braj areas in various Gau Shalas and other holy places like Shri Krishna Temple - Shrinathji Temple Nathdwara, ISKCON temples all over India.
Cows along with calves are worshipped with first smearing their forehead with roli tilak and then jaggery, sweets, panchamrit, rice and water offered to cows.
