That is why half of the Sawan Somwar dates differ in both calendars. In Nepal, and some parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Sawan Somwar is observed as per Solar Calendar. Thus Sawan Somwar dates in these regions might differ from Amanta as well as Purnimant calendar. Shravan or Savan month's name is derived from the Nakshatra (constellation) Shravan. This constellation Shravan appears every year in this month of Savan.

Highly auspicious time to start Solah Somvar Vrat Katha is from first Sawan Somwaar for women as well as men. Somvar Vrat or Somvaar Vrat is mainly categorized into three categories:
  •     Savan Somvar: Mondays fast in the month of Savan
  •     Solah Somvar: Solah (sixteen) Somvars(Mondays) fasting
  •     Somya Pradosh: Monday Fast observed till the evening during Pradosham or Pradosh Vrat.

Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati are both worshiped in month of Savan and devotees offer prayers along with Bel Patra, Dhatura, flowers, Water, Milk, fruits, Chandan and much more to receive their blessings.
