Martyr's Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas 2024, is held on numerous days in India. The killing of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on January 30th, 1948 is commemorated as Martyr's Day or Shaheed Diwas in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Gandhi Punyatithi. March 23 is also remembered as the day the British executed three heroic independence fighters, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar.
When is Martyr’s Day January 30 or March 23?
Shaheed Diwas, or Martyr's Day, is observed on January 30th in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, and March 23rd in honor of the sacrifice of three heroic freedom warriors from India. The British executed three national heroes on March 23, 1931: Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. Without a question, they gave their lives for the good of our country, whether or not they followed Mahatma Gandhi's example. They inspire India's young. They stepped out at such a young age and battled valiantly for their independence. To honor these three revolutionaries, Martyr's Day is also commemorated on the 23rd of March.
To commemorate the nation's martyrs, numerous more national days were designated as Sarvodaya or Shaheed Diwas.
13 July is Martyrs' Day in Jammu & Kashmir, commemorating the deaths of 22 individuals. On July 13, 1931, royal forces murdered demonstrators near Kashmir's Maharaja, Hari Singh.
21 October: Police Martyrs' Day, also known as Police Commemoration Day, is honored by police agencies countrywide.
On November 17th, Odisha celebrates Martyr's Day to commemorate the death anniversary of Lala Lajpat Ray, widely known as the "Lion of Punjab". He also played an essential part in India's liberation struggle against British rule.
19th November: This day is also known as Martyr's Day in Jhansi. On November 19th, Rani Lakshmi Bai was born. She also gave her life during the 1857 uprising.
