Sakat Chauth Fasting Significance & Importance

As Chaturthi tithi is very dear to Sri Ganesha, Sakat Chauth is celebrated on the same very day of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha was made from clay and given life by Mata Parvati on the day of Chaturthi. Thus Sakat Chauth Vrat is observed by mothers for the long life and well being of their children. Prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha by the women and her family on the day and Ganesha showers his blessings on the children as well as whole family of women observing this fast. Padma Purana mentions the benefits of observing Sakat Chauth Vrata that has been told by Lord Shiva to Mata Parvati.

Women as well as men can observe the Sakat Chauth fast. It is believed that the Pandav king Yudhishthira was the first person who observed this fast on the advice of Lord Krishna. A temple dedicated to Goddess Sakat can be seen in Sakat village in Rajasthan located at about 60 K.M. from Alwar and 150 K.M. from Jaipur which is popularly known as 'Sakat Chauth Mata' or 'Chauth Mata'. It is believed that visiting Chauth Mata temple on the day of Sakat Chauth is very beneficial for one’s children.

Sakat Chauth fast helps in the prosperity, well being, success, longevity in life for the person who observe the fast as well as the husband of the women along with the children. Moreover, it removes the obstacles in one’s life and also help in countering malefic effects of planet mercury.

Along with Sakat Mata, Lord Ganesha is also worshipped on this day of Sakat Chauth. As Chaturthi is dedicated Sri Ganesha, worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day brings happiness and prosperity.

Sakat Chauth is also known as Sankat Chauth, Til-Kuta Chauth, Vakra-Tundi Chaturthi and Maghi Chauth.
