Mahalakshmi Vrat begins on Bhadrapada month Shukla Ashtami which comes after four days of Ganesha Chaturthi festival and continues till the eight day of the Pitru Paksha (the Shradh period dedicated to ancestors). Mahalakshmi Vrat is observed for sixteen consecutive days which ends on Ashwin month Krishna Ashtami (as per Purnimanta calendar followed in North India).
