Sankranti is basically moving of Sun from one Rashi or Sign to another. Mithuna Sankranti is observed during Ashadha month and marks the beginning of the third Solar month in the Hindu calendar. Mithuna Sankranti marks the occasion of Sun moving into Gemini or Mithuna from Taurus which is known as Mithuna Sankramanam. On the day of Mithuna Sankranti 2024, the stones are decorated with flowers and vermillion. It's a popuar belief that the earth gets ready to receive rainfall. Swings are tied on the bark of the banyan tree, and girls enjoy themselves swinging on it is another ritual of Raja Parba festival.

Poda-pita is a delicacy made with jaggery, coconut, camphor, molasses, and butter is prepared in Odisha, especially on Mithuna Sankranti. One should avoid eating rice and grains on this day.
