Shradh Days or Pitru Paksha is a 16 lunar day’s period when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors, the persons who have died, through food offerings. As per South Indian Amavasyant calendar, Shraadh Days or Pitru Paksha falls in the lunar month of Bhadrapada beginning with the full moon day or day after full moon day. As per North Indian Purnimant calendar, Shradh Days or Pitru Paksha falls in the lunar month of Ashwin beginning with the full moon day in Bhadrapada or next day of full moon day.
It is just the difference of names for lunar months but both North Indians and South Indians perform Shraadh rituals on similar days. The last day of Shradh or Pitru Paksha is known as Sarvapitri Amavasya or Mahalaya amavasya.
