sharad purnima date

Sharad Purnima, which occurs on the full moon day of the Ashwin month, is one of the most well-known Purnima(s) in the Hindu calendar. Sharad Purnima is thought to be the only day of the year when the moon appears with all sixteen Kala(s). Each human trait is linked with a separate Kala in Hinduism, and it is claimed that the combination of sixteen different Kala(s) makes a complete human personality. Lord Krishna was the only incarnation of Lord Vishnu who was born with all sixteen Kala(s). Lord Rama was born with a total of twelve Kalas.

As a result, worshiping God Chandra on Sharad Purnima is regarded highly important. Newly married ladies who resolve to undergo Purnimasi fasting for a year begin the fast on Sharad Purnima. Sharad Purnima is also known as Sharad Poonam in Gujarat.

On this day, the Moon not only shines with all sixteen Kala(s), but its rays also have specific therapeutic characteristics that nourish both the body and the spirit. On the day of Sharad Purnima, it is also believed that the moon beams rain honey. To take advantage of this holy event, Rice-Kheer, a popular Indian sweet dessert comprised of cow milk, rice, and sugar, is customarily cooked on the day of Sharad Purnima and placed in moonlight for the entire night. Rice-Kheer, which is thought to be energized and reinforced by moonlight, is consumed in the morning and given as Prasad among family members.

krishna gopi raas purnima

Sharad Purnima is also known as Raas Purnima (रास पूर्णिमा) in the Brij area. On the day of Sharad Purnima, Lord Krishna is said to have performed Maha-Raas, the holy love dance. On the night of Sharad Purnima, hearing the beautiful song of Krishna's flute, the Gopis of Vrindavan snuck away from their homes and families to dance with Krishna all night. It was the day Lord Krishna produced several Krishna(s) to accompany each Gopi. Lord Krishna is said to have supernaturally extended the night to the length of Lord Brahma's one night, which was the equivalent of billions of human years.

In many regions Sharad Purnima is known as Kojagara Purnima when Kojagara Vrat is observed for the whole day. Kojagara Vrat is also known as Kaumudi Vrat (कौमुदी व्रत).

On this day, the Moon is completely lighted, and its rays provide healing energies that nourish both the body and the spirit. Sharad Purnima, also known as Kojagari Puja or Bengal Lakshmi Puja, is held on Amavasya Tithi during Diwali.
