Trayodashi Shradh 2023 Date, Magha Shraddha
What is Pitru Paksh Shradha?
Pitru Paksha, or the lunar month that runs from the full moon day of Bhadrapad to the Amavasya (August-September) month, is considered particularly auspicious for conducting shradh and tarpan for departed ancestors. This is a wonderful time for shradha rites for all ancestors who died in any month or paksha. The shradha is organized during the Pitru Paksha, taking into account the tithi of the departed soul. According to Hindu scriptures, the shradh conducted during the Pitru Paksha, also known as the Mahalaya Paksha, is exceedingly auspicious, and the merits gained will be far greater than what results from completing the yearly shradh rites. The Hindus conduct the Pitru Paksha to honor the ancestors and to pray for the departed families.
What is Trayodashi Shradh?
The thirteenth day of Pitru Paksha is Trayodashi Shraddha. Trayodashi Shraddha ceremonies are done for those who died on Trayodashi, encompassing both the Shukla Paksha and the Krishna Paksha. Furthermore, this day is designated for conducting the shradh of children who died while they were young, regardless of the month, paksha, or tithi in which they died. Because the Magha star frequently falls on Trayodashi, this shradh is also known as Magha shradh. Because the Magha star is controlled by the Pitrus (ancestors), performing shradh rites during the Pitru Paksha is highly unique.
Importance of Pitru Paksha Shradh / Trayodashi Shraddha significance
Pitru Paksha or Mahalaya Shraddha is also known as Parvan Shraddha, and executing these shraddha actions at Kutup and Rohini times is said to be particularly beneficial. Kakbali and Balabholaniteras are other names for Triodashi Shraddha. It is regarded highly productive to pay respect to the children who died prematurely on this date, who are served Shradh ceremonies and food, hoping salvation to Pitris who died on this date. This day also honors people who died in accidents, natural catastrophes, or unexpected deaths. Magha Shraddha is another name for Trayodashi Shraddha.
This day is also called Magha Trayodashi as the Magha Nakshatra or Magha constellation falls on this day in the afternoon. The shraddha of the Trayodashi date of the Pitri Paksha, which lasts from the full moon to the new moon of Bhadrapada, is looked at in a special way. The star of Magha is considered to be the star inhabited by the ancestors.
Every single day is a holy day. However, certain days are designated for certain tasks due to the presence of various energies and abilities. Because the ancestors visit their offspring to collect the gifts personally during Pitru Paksha, this is considered the most auspicious period for executing the shradh rites.
The auspicious muhurats are Kutup Muhurat and Rohina Muhurat, and they last till the Aparahna Kala is over. According to the Marandeya Purana scripture, shradha's ancestors would provide health, prosperity, and happiness, and the one who fulfills all the rites is said to have attained salvation.
Aside from very revered Shradh locations like as Varanasi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gaya, and Prayag, the ideal spot to perform Trayodasi Shradh rites is Perumagalur Temple in Tamil Nadu.
