Magha Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Magh. It's an important day in Hindu calendar which describes the holy bath and austerity during the full Magha month. It is believed that every single day in Magha month is special for doing charity work. Magha Purnima, which is popularly and commonly known as Maghi Purnima or Maha Maghi, is the last and most important day of Magha Mahina. Rituals like holy bath, offering alms, donating cow and Homa at Prayagraj are performed by people on Maghi Purnima. On Magh Purnima, the charity and donation done will give you 32 times more punya than any other day. And that's why the Magh Purnima day is also known as Battisi Purnima. Pitri tarpan and donating in the forefathers name will give you blessings from all your forefathers. It is believed that Devtas come on Earth at Prayagraj in human form on this day and do Snan, Daan and worship.

Fasting on Magh Purnima helps in getting blessings and love from the almighty, Sri Hari Vishnu and provides the observer with happiness, good luck, fortune, children and salvation. Like all Purnima, Moon can be seen in its full glory on Maghi Purnima day and Moon or Chandra Devta alongwith Sri Hari Narayan are worshipped. It is believed that worshipping Sri Hari Vishnu and Sri Hanuman Ji on Magh Purnima will give you happiness and all your wishes would be fulfilled. Many People also fast on the Purnima day and worship Satyanarayan Bhagwan and read Satyanarayan Vrat Katha every Poornmashi.

People take early morning bath in the holy river Ganga or Yamuna throughout the Magha month. The daily bathing ritual starts from Paush Purnima and ends on Magha Purnima. It is believed that all charity work done in this time frame give fruits easily. Thus people offer donation in temples and to the needy and poor. It is also the last day of Kalpawas, the one month austerity camp put up on the bank of the river Ganga at Prayagraj. Falgun month starts the next day after Maghi Purnima. Magh Mela and Kumbh Mela are also held during this time when lakhs and crores of devotees come and bath in the Ganga Snan from not only in India but across the globe.

It has been mentioned in the scriptures that if Pushya Nakshatra falls on the day of Maghi Purnima, then it carries much importance and anybody who do Ganga Snan on this day in Prayagraj will get all his/her wishes fulfilled and get moksha i.e. salvation at the end.

Among Dus Mahavidya, Devi Lalita Jayanti is also celebrated on the day of Magh Purnima.
Sant Ravidas Jayanti is also observed on Magha Purnima day.
