Shabari Jayanti 2022 Date
Shabari is the name of one of the most popular devotees of Sri Ram and her birthday is celebrated as Shabari Jayanti every year. Mata Shabari along with Shri Ram are worshipped on this day. It is believed that Shabri received Sri Rama's blessings because of her utmost dedication and devotion towards him. Those who have read, recited and seen Ramlila or Ramayana serial on TV knows very well that Shabari tasted berries before giving it to Sri Ram and Sri Lakshman who came to see Shabari. If it was sweet, then only she gave it to Ram, she discarded the sour ones. She was so innocent that She did not knew that offerings must not be tasted. Her devotion (Bhakti) was so pure that she did not want Shri Rama to have bitter berries. Thus by tasting each of the berries, she ensured that only the sweetest ones were offered to Ram. It must be noted here that even though hundreds of other yogis were waiting to receive Rama in their ashrams, Rama went only to Shabari's ashram because of her pure and sincere devotion.
Shabari, a seeker of knowledge, wanted to understand the true meaning of Dharma went to her Guru Sage Matanga. Years later, when Sage Matanga was about to leave his mortal body, Shabari also wished to attain enlightenment. Thus, she wondered how she could achieve the same. Sage Matanga ordered her to offer unconditional service (seva) to Sri Ram and that her sincere prayers will be answered upon Shri Rama's arrival. Inspired by her Guru's teachings, Shabari would often clean her humble abode to ensure it is tidy enough for giving shelter to Shri Rama.
