Tritiya Shradh 2023 Date, Teej Shradha

What is Pitru Paksh Shradha

It is once again the time of year when we pray for our departed family members. Whether they are our grandparents or great-grandparents, they all have a significant impact in shaping our lives.

And according to Hindu customs, doing Shraddha is an act of gratefully remembering our forefathers.

Shraddha literally translates to "acting with sincerity and faith." It is crucial because the afterlife should be a smooth transition. Additionally, it allows peaceful soul slumber. This day is special because they are performing the ancestor's responsibility, which calms their souls.

Pitru Paksha Shraddhas are Parvan Shraddhas (पार्वण श्राद्ध) and auspicious time to perform them is either Kutup Muhurat and Rohina etc. Muhurat after that till Aparahna Kala gets over. Tarpan (तर्पण) is done at the end of the Shraddha.

What is Tritiya Shradha?

The third day of Pitrupaksha or the third day of Mahalaya Paksha is Tritiya Shraddha. Teej Shraddha is another name for Tritiya Shraddha. The Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapatha Month's Tritiya Thithi is also referred to as Tritiya Shraddha.

Tritya Shraddha is the third day of the fifteen-day period known as Mahalya Paksha. When a family member passes away on a Tritiya Tithi, including Shukla and Krishna Paksha Tritiya, Tritiya Shraddha is performed in their honor. Following the Shraddha, pind daan is performed and tarpans are offered to the departed. Pind daan is either fed to the cows or submerged in the river.

On this day, it is advised to do Sri Vishnu pooja with the assistance of a pandit in order to promote peace, love, and harmony among family members and well-wishers as well as in houses.

The most well-liked locations to perform Tritiya Shraddha rites are Gaya, Kashi/Varanasi, Rameshwaram, Haridwar, Prayag Sangam/Allahabad, and Rishikesh. According to Tamil beliefs, the Sarva Mangala Theertham in Thiru Rameshwaram close to Mannargudi is the appropriate location for this shraddha. Shraddha should be performed during the day such that lunchtime falls between noon and two o'clock.

Tritiya Shraddha Significance

According to the Brahmpurana, if one's departed ancestors are happy and they are worshipped in front of the Gods, the Gods would be happy. In the Hindu faith, family members who have passed away are honored and a puja is held, especially during the days of Pitru Paksha. Tarpan is the Hindu practice of paying homage to the ancestors by providing food, water, and contributions.

Tritiya Shraddha Rituals and Puja Vidhi -

There are several rituals that are performed. They are as follows:

Sharddha
Tarpan
Pinda Daan

The Shraddhas puja performer must take an early morning bath, dress neatly, ideally in a dhoti, and use holy thread. He should also wear a durva grass ring. Mostly, the eldest son in the family performs the rituals during the shraddha period.
The holy thread is replaced several times throughout ceremonies in accordance with puja vidhi.
Chant mantras and softly pour water from a pot while remembering your forefathers.
Making pinda, which are spherical balls of rice and flour, is a common pinda-daan activity. Along with flowers and water, these are presented.

When a puja is done, food is provided to the deceased person's spirit. First, the food is offered to the cow, which Hindus regard as sacred. A crow is said to serve as a bridge between this world and the hereafter. Crows are also given food, along with little portions for the dog and ants. Brahmins are given food, clothing, and dakshina.
