The elder brother of Lord Krishna, Lord Balarama is worshipped as 8th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Balarama Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Balarama. In some regions of India, Balarama Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Akshaya Tritiya while in various other regions, Balarama Jayanti is celebrated on the Shravan Purnima day. Some celebrate it in the month of Vaisakh which falls either in April or May.

In North India, this day is also known as Hal Sashti and Lalahi Chhath. This day is popularly known as Baladeva Chhath in Braj region and this day is observed as Randhan Chhath or Baladeva Chhath in Gujarat.
