Gayatri Jayanti is observed as the birth anniversary of Goddess Gayatri who is the Goddess of Vedas. Goddess Gayatri is also known as Veda Mata as She is the Goddess of all Vedas. She is worshipped as the Goddess of Hindu Trimurti. Gayatri Mata is the mother of all Gods and incarnation of Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Parvati and Goddess Lakshmi. Gayatri Jayanti occurs on Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha Ekadashi tithi and usually observed on the next day of Ganga Dussehra. Because of the difference of opinions to observe Gayatri Jayanti, it is also observed on Shravana Purnima day. Shravana Purnima Gayatri Jayanti is widely accepted by all and usually the day is also the Upakarma day (start of learning Vedas). Gayatri Jayanti day during Shravana Purnima is also observed as Sanskrit Diwas in India, to uphold the importance of Sanskrit language. Various activities are organized on the Sanskrit Diwas day to promote the great Sanskrit Vedic language. On Gayatri Jayanti, special prayers are recited for Gayatri Mata to get her blessings. Not to forget, Gayatri Mantra is chanted a number of times.


The appearing of Goddess Gayatri on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshta month marks the celebration of Gayatri Jayanti in the form of knowledge.Gayatri mantra is chanted in high spirits on this day of Gayatri Mantra. Gayatri jayanti day is also celebrated as the day of Ganga Avataran or Ganga Dussehra.
